One morning, we discover a fallen poplar ...
... its trunk cut like a pencil!
This is obviously the work of beavers
Chips 5 to 10 cm long are scattered on the ground
They devoured the bark
You can easily see the traces of their teeth
The following nights the knapping begins
branches are cut into logs ...
Their teeth dig the heartwood
Nothing can resist them!
The trunk shortens every night
A fabulous job!
We never see them..
But we can hear them at night.
Bark is used as food, wood for the construction of dams
The branches are sent over the water ...
... probably towards a dam downstream.
There is almost nothing left of our poplar!
